Our story
OUR LANGUAGE.
THEIR LEGACY.
Deviwo started at home, teaching my daughter Eʋegbe and looking for resources I could trust. It’s for families raising children outside Ghana, and for anyone who wants to learn the language or reconnect with it.
Where it started
For me, growing up in the UK with parents from Kpando in Ghana’s Volta Region, the sounds of Ewe were as much a part of our home as the English we spoke at school. My brothers and I aren’t native speakers, but our parents made sure we could understand and hold our own in conversation.
Now, as a parent myself, I’m determined to pass that on. I started by teaching my daughter animal names, but when I looked for Ewe words online, I found so many different translations, and no way to know which were right.
Authenticity first
I wasn’t willing to guess. I worked with elders and an educator in Ghana to check every word and its pronunciation before it went on a card.
Why Deviwo?
In Ewe, deviwo means children. That’s who this is for: passing the language on to the next generation, and giving families a way to learn it together.
THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING
Ewe is spoken in Ghana, Togo and across the diaspora. We’re starting with animals, but this is only Volume 1, and there’s more to come.

Special thanks to everyone in Ghana who offered their support, and in particular to my mother, Mavis Amoa, Gifty Agagah and Mr Agbale.
